7 Tips for Planning a Wedding - From Getting the Ring to Getting Hitched

The commitment between two people to share the rest of their lives together is a strong union that transforms groom and bride into husband and wife. There are many things to consider when getting engaged and planning a wedding.

  1. Purchase an engagement ring. Wedding rings have long been exchanged as a symbol of love and commitment. Because a circle is never-ending, a ring is said to represent the never-ending love between a man and a woman, When you're looking to purchase the engagement ring, be sure to buy from a reputable store. Determine if you want to buy only the engagement ring or purchase a matching set that includes an engagement ring and wedding band.
  2. Pick a location. There are a few factors to consider when planning on where to get married. First and foremost, you'll want to make sure that it's somewhere both the bride and groom agree on. Secondly, you'll want to consider your wedding party - can everyone make it there. Lastly, keep in mind your guests - can they travel, are there enough places to accommodate everyone, etc. If you're thinking about planning a wedding in Hawaii, consider letting a full-service Kauai wedding planner handle many of the details of your wedding.
  3. Select wedding party. Typically, the maid/matron of honor and the best man are close relatives (sisters, brothers, cousins, etc.) of the bride and groom. While it's important to select someone important, you'll want to also take into consideration who is not being selected. Will people feel left out if you don't choose them?
  4. Decide on colors, invitations, favors. Let your wedding party help you come up with ideas for your colors, invitations, favors, etc. You chose them because they are important to you, so their opinions can help when it starts to become overwhelming. Try using an online planning service to help with nailing down dates and budgets.
  5. Invite guests. Having a preset budget is going to be one of the primary factors in deciding how many guests to invite. If you're on a tight budget or want a more intimate setting, you'll want to have a smaller wedding. The key is to try to have equal guests from both parties invited. If you're trying to keep it small but don't really know how, not allowing children is one way to save space and lower head count.
  6. Select minister or officiant. Selecting an officiate (or someone who is legally able to perform weddings) is typically chosen based on religious preferences. You'll want to meet with your officiant prior to selecting them to see that they can meet your needs and match your overall style. Also, make sure to ask about their fees and feel free to request references as well.
  7. Enjoy your special day. Remember that this is your wedding. While it's important to take into consideration the wishes of friends and family, ultimately, this is your day. Just be sure to let your wedding party tend to the last minute details so that you can take it all in and enjoy what will be the happiest day of your life.

When it's all said and done, you want to be able to look back with a smile and remember this special day. By relying on your wedding party to help out with many of the planning details, you and your fiance can create memories that will last a lifetime.
